Free Family Fishing Day
No license required! Bring the whole family for a free day of fishing, bait, and fun. Loaner rods available for first-timers. Prizes for biggest fish in each age group.
Kids Bass Derby
Annual kids-only bass tournament. Catch, weigh, and release. Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each age class. Every kid goes home with a prize.
Catfish Night Tournament
Adult and teen catfish tournament on the Mississippi. Team or solo entry. Biggest channel cat takes the pot. Bait and tackle available at the shop day-of.
Fall Family Fishing Clinic
Free hands-on fishing clinic for kids and parents. Learn knot tying, bait rigging, casting technique, and fish identification. Hosted by Gersty's staff and local DNR volunteers.
Good to Know
Illinois Fishing License
Kids under 16 fish free in Illinois — no license needed. Adults need a valid IL fishing license. We sell them right here at the shop.
What to Bring
Rod, reel, and a good attitude. We supply bait for most events. Bring sunscreen, water, and snacks. Loaner rods available for first-timers — just ask.
Catch & Release
Most of our kids events are catch-and-release. We believe in keeping Illinois waters healthy for the next generation of anglers.
